Bookreporter.com's Book of the Year: THE HELP
Bookreporter.com's first ever Book of the Year is The Help by Kathryn Stockett. Set in 1963, it's the story of three women --- two African American maids in Mississippi and a young white woman who sees a story in the world that they live in. You can read more about why it was selected here.

Kathryn's book was an absolute favorite of the Pulpwood Queens Book Club and was neck to neck with Pat Conroy's South of Broad for our Book of the Year! When all the votes came in Pat's book won and I really think that was because he was actually coming to our Pulpwood Queen Book Club Convention in January where Kathryn Stockett had to cancel. Regardless, The Help was the closest book I have ever read to my all time best beloved book to film, To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. She is a writer to watch and I just heard she won USA Today Book of the Year and other Book of the Year awards! All I know is that my book club loved reading her story and The Help is the perfect book club selection read for discussion too.
